Oregon/Washington (2012)

“Team Oregon/Washington” consisted of NESCent Science Communications Manager Robin Smith (a Darwin Day Roadshow first-timer) and NESCent Postdoc Jenny McGuire (a veteran of the 2011 Roadshow trip to Virginia).

Their first stop was The Annie Wright School in Tacoma, Washington, where they were hosted by science teacher Tara Bacher.

Robin Smith introduces Annie Wright School students to the exciting career options that are available to them in science.

Jenny McGuire displays the fun stuff found in a paleontologist’s backpack and shares adventures from her field work…..

…and displays some of the cool fossils she has found.

Annie Wright students get up close and personal with fossils!

After a fun day spent at The Annie Wright school, Robin and Jenny hit the road and head south to Banks, Oregon, where science teacher Carol Pallett hosted them at Banks High School.

Jenny McGuire discusses her research and life as a paleontologist with Banks High School students.

Banks High School students proudly display the “I Love Science” tattoos that Robin and Jenny brought with them and handed out.  (Note to Parents: YES, these were temporary tattoos!)
